I had a potential client write today and say that a few of the references I gave her a week and a half ago aren't returning her phone calls.
'Any idea what's up with that?' she asked.
Yeah, I know what's up with that... people don't give a fucking shit about anything that doesn't put cash in their pockets, or make THEM more satisfied as human creatures.
This has happened so many times, too. Otherwise decent, respectful people completely passing on throwing even the smallest bone across the pond.
And there's nothing I can do.
Write someone and beg them to return the phone call? Yeah, that way I lose not only the person I'm trying to gain as a client when the established client sustains a narcissistic injury and shuts down, but then I lose THAT client, too.
I might as well just go crumple up a couple of one hundred dollar bills and have a little bonfire on my porch before I head off to work today. That would at least be entertaining.
