Yesterday on my way to work i drove by laurelhurst park on the bus, and managed to look out the window at the pond as we drove by, thinking about the woman in the news over the last few months in portland...
she had a complete psychotic break-- totally professional, married with kids i think, and ended up wandering portland on buses, no awareness of who she was... totally lost.
and then a few days ago i saw a news report about how the city was going to drain the pond in laurelhurst on monday morning.
which led me to look out the window of the bus yesterday...
her cellphone, coat, and other belongings had apparently been found on one of the benches by the pond that i always sit on in the summer and read...
but, i guess she came to the surface before the surface came to her:
"The city had planned to drain the pond to help in the search.
Instead, someone walking in the southeast Portland park Sunday spotted the body in the water and flagged down a police officer, said Sgt. Brian Schmautz, a police spokesman. Fire officials responded with a boat and divers to recover the body."
