Letter to the editor of the New York Times....
Re "No Offense, But..." (Jan. 30)":
If President Bush really believes that anybody who pays attention to
politics buys that his repeated use of the term 'Democrat' in place of
'Democratic' is just a harmless, 'golly gee' Texas flub, we really
have underestimated how little he thinks of the intelligence of the
American people.
Anybody that pays any attention to right-wing rhetoric today knows
that 'Democrat' is an often used, well-worn and repeated 'mistake'
(when pretense isn't needed, the 'RAT' at the end capitalized).
So no, intelligent people in this country don't buy what President
Bush is selling, and neither should the media.
To borrow a few insults from the opposite end of the spectrum, perhaps
we'd find out how the Republican party-- along with the mainstream
media-- really feels about verbal slip-ups from people who should know
better if the Democratic leadership in Congress all of a sudden forgot
that it was the 'Republican' party instead of the 'Repuglican' party,
while also forgetting that the president was the 'President' and not
the 'pResident'.
